Welcome to the

Hernia Surgery

Center of Excellence

The Hernia Institute at the Institute for Specialized Surgery is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of all types of hernias, including groin (inguinal, femoral, obturator), epigastric, umbilical, incisional, lumbar, Spigelian, parastomal hernias, and diastasis recti. Our team of specialized surgeons utilizes advanced imaging, minimally invasive, robotic-assisted, and open surgical techniques to provide comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Hernias can impact comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life, often requiring careful evaluation to determine the most appropriate repair approach. At the Hernia Institute, we offer laparoscopic Totally Extra Peritoneal (TEP) and Trans-Abdominal Pre-Peritoneal (TAP) mesh repairs for groin hernias, TAP mesh repair, Intra-Peritoneal Onlay Mesh (IPOM), and Subcutaneous Only Laparoscopic Approach (SCOLA) for abdominal wall hernias and diastasis recti. Open and robotic-assisted repairs are also available for complex or recurrent cases. Our goal is to provide safe, effective, and individualized treatment that restores function and improves patient outcomes.

What types of hernias do you treat at the Hernia Center of Excellence?
We treat a wide range of hernias including groin (inguinal, femoral, obturator), abdominal wall (epigastric, umbilical, incisional, Spigelian, lumbar, parastomal), and diastasis recti.
Any bulge, discomfort, or pain in the abdomen or groin should be evaluated. Early intervention can prevent complications and make repair less complex.
Recovery varies by procedure. Minimally invasive approaches typically involve less pain and a quicker return to normal activities, while open or complex repairs may require a longer recovery period and follow-up care.
