Bariatric Surgery

Center of Excellence

The Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence at the Institute for Specialized Surgery is dedicated to the comprehensive management of obesity and related metabolic conditions. Our team of surgeons, nutritionists, and multidisciplinary specialists provides individualized care, combining lifestyle counseling, medical therapy, and advanced surgical procedures to help patients achieve safe and lasting weight loss.

Patients with obesity often face challenges affecting overall health, mobility, and quality of life. At the Center, we offer a full spectrum of care including lifestyle and behavioral counseling, nutritional guidance, medications, and surgical options tailored to each patient’s needs. Our surgical procedures include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, and single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve (SADI-S/SIPS). We also specialize in managing complications and symptoms such as acid reflux, strictures, difficulty swallowing, and pain following previous bariatric procedures.

Our mission is to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care that supports long-term weight management, improves overall health, and enhances quality of life through a combination of medical expertise, advanced technology, and individualized support.

Am I eligible for bariatric surgery?
Eligibility for bariatric surgery is typically based on your body mass index (BMI), overall health, and any obesity-related conditions. Generally, surgery is considered for patients with a BMI of 40 or higher, or a BMI of 35 or higher with comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea. A thorough evaluation by our multidisciplinary team determines if surgery is safe and appropriate for you.
We offer FDA-approved medications to support weight loss, either as a standalone therapy or in combination with lifestyle changes and surgery. These medications can help reduce appetite, improve satiety, and support long-term weight management under close medical supervision.
Some degree of weight regain can occur after any bariatric procedure. Our team evaluates factors such as diet, lifestyle, anatomy, and underlying medical conditions to create a tailored plan. Options may include nutritional counseling, behavioral interventions, medication, or, in some cases, revisional surgery to restore weight loss and maintain long-term results.
